2014.01.04 - Cataract Project

Free Cataract operations by Hospital Pantai Manjung
Organized jointly with the Rotary Club Of Sitiawan

The Rotary Club of Sitiawan and Hospital Pantai Manjung jointly Carried out a Health Screening Campaign during the Rotary Carnival on 4th January 2014, at SJK (C) Chung Cheng, when Rtn. Moi Lai Chee was the President.

During the Health Screening Campaign, 20 members of the public, who were screened, were detected to have cataracts and were selected for free cataract operations by Hospital Pantai Manjung. However after investigation and processing by the Rotary Club Of Sitiawan and Hospital Pantai Manjung, only 11 out of the 20 were found to be deserving and qualified for the free cataract operations. And out of the 11, one was unable to be located and another one was in Johore and could not come back. The remaining 9 cases had their cataract operations, with their intraocular lens implantats, done completely free of charge by Hospital Pantai Manjung, under the capable hands of its resident consultant ophthalmologist , Dr. Giddeon Khaw.

Today, on this special auspicious day of “World Sight day” we are gathering here to celebrate the successful completion of all the 9 cases of the Free Cataract Operations project. The 9 cases are all here today happy and grateful with their new and much improved vision.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Hospital Pantai Manjung for their generosity, civic mindedness and kind cooperation to make this project a success, working hand-in-hand with the Rotary Club of Sitiawan, in service to the community, to help the poor and the needy, and bring cheers to the desolates and the unfortunates.
