Rotary Club Sitiawan Stamp Exhibition on 22.04.2000 – Never before in the history of Manjung District has a stamp exhibition been organised. Sitiawan Rotary Club dare to venture where others fear. Under the able chairmanship of PP Dr Ling Hee Huong almost every Rotarian and Ann helped to make the exhibition a success, especially President Khaw Eng Aun, Secretary Lim Kee Moon, IPP Caroline Ling and Mrs Ling Hee Huong who provided enthusiastic support and hard work. On the eve of the exhibition, everyone, in one way or another helped to set up the displays till late at night. They also helped out during the following two days of the exhibition.

The Rotary Club of Sitiawan would like to thank Mr Nagarajah the senior Vice President and Hon.Editor of Philatelic Society of Malaysia and Rtn.Govind of US Agency, for their invaluable assistance and for the loan of their valuable collections of stamps that were exhibited. The Club would also like to thank POS Malaysia for supplying the frames and also for assisting us in many other ways. It was a pleasant surprise to see the steady stream of visitors to the exhibition, both young and old. Some came out of curiosity but others to view and also to add to their collection as US Agency was also selling stamps. POS Malaysia also sold earlier released first-day-covers and albums.

The biggest attraction was the stamp ‘lelong’ corner. Thousands of stamps were strewn on a canvas and were priced at 7 pieces for RM1.00 the first day and 10 for RM1.00 the second day. The children and even the adults were literally all over the stamps. Sales were very brisk, but more than that, the happiness on the children’s faces was worth all the trouble taken to have this exhibition. At closing time on the last day of the exhibition, the children had to be virtually dragged from the ‘lelong’ corner.

It is appropriate to mention that with the assistance and encouragement of the Principal, Mr Tor Siong Kang, SM Methodist (ACS), the school that participated in the exhibition, has formed a stamp club. Necessary materials to form the club were donated by PP Dr Ling Hee Huong. Rtn. Govind of US Agency donated a sum of RM500.00 to the stamp club.
